What is Tai Zen ?
The Tai-Zen system was developed by Chief Grand
Master Howard Tague to answer the challenges of
violence in todays Society. Through the years, Tai-Zen has incorporated Jiu-Jitsu, Karate and many other aspects of the Martial Arts that have been found useful to reveal the undeniable advantage that Defense has over aggresion in real battle. While most systems practice pure aggresion, Master Tague created an art form that teaches students the weakness of aggresion and how to exploit those weaknesses both mentally and physically. No matter what the size, strength or weight of the opponent, the opponent is only as stong as thier weakest link. We are taught how to recognize and exploit those weak links. Students are also taught how to handle themselves in extreme life threatening situations, as well as situations of a less violent nature ie. pushing, grabbing, unwanted touching etc. After all not every altercation turns into a fight! The course of study, from beginner to advanced includes, not only Self control through understanding, but understanding the "legal ramifications" as well.Through our studies of how the body can best use gravity, leverage, momentum and centrifugal force, combined with our study of Internal and External powers of KI, as well as Infighting skills and Battle Theory we find that a single blow will often suffice......
Be aware that no studying Practitioner starts
out capable of the above mentioned techniques,
but rather aquires them during their studies
and practices by using their open-mindedness
and determination. No practitioner should
condemn themselves for techniques that do not
feel proficient, but be assured that we all crawled
before we could walk, and walked before we
could run, and so goes wisdom. In other words
the finest learning tools are, patience,open-
mindedness concentration and determination.
Chief Grand Master Tague
Since different groups face different types of confrontations , we have separate classes for men, women
and children. After all, it is not likely an agressor will attack a 6year old child the same way, or for the same reasons as they would a 36 year old male.In addition to attaining proficiency in the mechanical and psychological aspects of battle, the Tai-Zen student enjoys the confidence, physical enhancement and feeling of well being that accompanies their training.Rather than a high profile, militaristc approach to learning, our students enjoy the freedom of practice in a cooperative, non-competetive enviornment without the burden of being punished or mocked by others. We treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves. We dont look down, we look back.

Attendance
As a general rule, it is recommended that the student attend as many classes as comfortable. The time spent at each rank varies and depends on the students proficiency and understanding of the principles being taught.
Rank
We recognize that each student progresses at their own rate, and that it would be unfair and destructive to create
competition for rank at any level. The purpose of study is to be comfortable with the principles of Self-Defense, not to strive for rank, but ability.
The Tai-Zen ranking system is designed to recognize a students progress in both ability and understanding of the principles of Defense. It is not measured by time or money. The early ranks are judged by prerequisites while the upper ranks are judged on an individual basis.
Classes are divided into 3 levels:
Basic:This course can run from 2-4 months depending on
understanding and attendance. A student that attends 2-3x
a week will obviously graduate faster than the student that attends 1 class a week. A student is judged on an individual basis and not in comparison to anyone else. A White belt is presented to the student upon entering the Basic course. It signifies purity and a willingness to learn. In this class the student learns the "Fury line". That is how to defend against attacks that are coming at you "Fast and Furious". Upon graduation, the Tai-Zen patch is awarded and sewn on the left side of the "Gi" (uniform).
Intermediate:Upon entering the intermediate
class the student will learn to defend from a more complex opponent. These will range from Boxers to Karate fighters, wrestlers, as well as an array of other "street fighting" types as well as Knives, Bats, Clubs and various "sneak" attacks.
A student will earn the ranks from white belt,1,2,3,4 stripes, Black tip, Yellow, and when they attain Green Belt, they will then move to the Advanced class. This may take from 2-4 yrs.depending on the student.
Advanced:The advanced class is a continual learning process that may take a lifetime of study. At this level you already know "how" to defeat any aggressive opponent. The reason for continual study is the "why". These principals become more and more clear as you progress in this class on to the ranks of Brown, Brown-Black and Black Belt. If the student desires to become a "Sensei" they may at any time embark on the path to the "instructoral" levels to become a qualified Tai-Zen Instructor.

"Accurate assessment of ones self is important. Confidence without ability is dangerous. A persons confidence should be proportional to their ability or skill. A persons reason for study after time should be for greater insight to themselves and the art in which they study."
